I say this from experience….try to take a boat to find the fish!
Apart from late summer when you can catch mackerel all day from the pier, the best marks are a mile or so up the loch, and the angling charter boats from Gairloch and Badachro will put you on them. Big pollock, no BIG pollock are there all year, with some flatties if you have bait. Coalfish, whiting, pollock and of course mackerel can all be had on big lures or feathers.
For the really hardy, there are big winter cod out in the Minch.
First, ALL lochs are controlled by active water bailiffs – please, however tempting it might be, don’t cast your line without permission. Ask at the Shop on the Pier for more information. Thanks.
Skye and Wester Ross Fisheries Trust are carefully monitoring the number and health of wild stock sea trout, salmon and brownies, (especially the migratory species) where they are assessing the impact or otherwise of commercial fish farms, warming seas and commercial fishing.
Having said all that, the fishing here is just wonderful. Lovely lochs and lochins with native wild fish to take on the fly in season. What’s not to love?
